Description

Kristen Brown grew up in Westchester and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Pennsylvania and an Master of Arts in the Teaching of English from Columbia University’s Teachers College. She joined the Carnegie Prep teaching team in 2016.

Since 2007, Kristen has been a teacher in the English Department at New Canaan High School. She focuses on freshman and junior courses at all levels, including honors and AP. In her junior courses, Kristen teaches a unit on college admissions essays.

She designed curricula for the high school’s AP English Language and Composition course as well as for senior elective courses in Journeys in Literature and Short Fiction. She also serves as the co-leader of the school’s Writing Center program, where she assists students of all grade and ability levels with writing assignments of all kinds.

Kristen loves teaching and takes great pleasure in helping students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers. She especially enjoys getting to know her students through discussion of the fiction and non-fiction works she teaches in the classroom, and helping students relate those materials to their own lives.

Outside the classroom, Kristen organizes the high school’s annual Poetry Fest and serves as the faculty sponsor of the Charity Link club.

Kristen lives in Ridgefield, CT with her husband and two children.
