Description
An alumnus of Nanuet High School, Matt Allen attended Cornell University where he studied Educational Psychology with a concentration in history. His interest in education continued in Boston where Matt garnered a Teaching and Curriculum Studies Master’s Degree from Harvard University. Here, Matt took several courses at the JFK School of Government while developing a strong affinity for the Boston Red Sox.
Matt’s career in education began in southwestern Florida, where he taught World History for two years at Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda, Florida. In 1999, Matt returned home to New York to be closer to family and began teaching at his childhood rival school of Byram Hills, where he teaches AP World History, AP European History, and Current Events. Matt won Byram Hills Teacher of the Year in 2007 and was recently named a top teacher in Westchester!
Matt also serves as the Varsity Boys Soccer coach, Mock Trial Advisor, Model United Nations Advisor, and Coordinator for the Peer Tutoring Club. In addition, Matt is the Chairperson for New York State High School Boys Soccer and also heads up the Byram Hills Sports Hall of Fame.
Matt joined the Carnegie Prep team in 2013 and is always developing new strategies and content for the changes made to both of his AP Examinations. He has been tutoring these subjects for over 20 years in the Westchester/Connecticut area.
When he is not teaching history, coaching soccer, or watching the Red Sox on television, he enjoys spending time at home in Yorktown Heights with his wife and two daughters.
