Description

Liz Matthews grew up in Darien and holds a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Liz began her professional career in publishing, both at a literary agency and as an Editorial Assistant at Random House before teaching middle and high school English at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn and Shelburne Community School in Shelburne, VT.

More recently, Liz was the Executive Director of the Westport Writers’ Workshop, a nonprofit literary organization based in Westport, CT. She has taught Introductory & Intermediate Fiction, Flash Fiction, and Creative Writing at the workshop for the past five years. Her short fiction and essays have appeared in Town & Country, Spelk, Storgy, Milk Candy Review, and The Tishman Review, Brain Child, The Rumpus, and Big Fiction Little Truths among other places.

Aside from reading, writing, and teaching, Liz loves to head into the city to see theater (especially Shakespeare), dance, and art exhibits. She also enjoys dragging her kids to visit independent bookstores in any new town or city they visit.

Liz lives in Fairfield, CT with her husband and two children.
