Finance 101 (Online) - CLOSED
Grade level: College and above, or students who have completed Introduction to Money
For the college student or recent college graduate, this course will quickly review all the topics in "Introduction to Money" and then go further. We will explore how debt works (whether it's a student loan, financing a car, or getting a mortgage). We'll talk about your credit score, why it matters, and how to manage it. We will discuss the nuts and bolts of saving for the future, both in the short-term and for retirement: how to set up an online brokerage account, how to build a portfolio of investments, tax-advantaged accounts (401(k) vs. Roth IRA), the 4% rule, and more. We will discuss taxes. Finally, we will go over the different players in the financial industry and what they do (including what a career in any of these fields may look like): investment banks, mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, accountants, consultants, lawyers, and others!
Extra Help: Teacher will be available as-needed for individual consultations.
