Description

Michael Yoo was born in suburban Chicago and lived in Boston, New Jersey, and Westchester County before settling down in Fairfield County, CT. He earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Physics at Harvard College and his PhD in Physics at MIT.

Michael was a professional physicist at Bell Labs and IBM for a decade. He then spent over 20 years building and leading technology businesses before returning to his original passion for math and science education.

Over the past 4 decades, he has taught math and physics as an undergraduate and graduate student, taught weekend hands-on science classes for elementary schoolers, trained elementary school teachers in science education, been a science museum docent, and has helped coach middle-school quiz bowl teams.

In his free time, Michael loves to cook, snowboard, golf, and play any form of racquet sport (tennis, squash, paddle, pickleball).

Michael has been working with Carnegie Prep since 2025, teaching PSAT, SAT, and ACT classes as well as private tutoring in math, physics, chemistry, and biology. He lives in Darien with his wife and three children.
