Description
Jason Haley has been teaching United States History since 2003, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to Carnegie Prep. He holds a history education degree from Washington & Jefferson College, an American Studies Masters Degree from Penn State University, and two additional Masters Degrees in Education from Wilkes University. Jason specializes in teaching United States History. He currently instructs AP United States History courses and serves as an Adjunct History Professor courses for Harrisburg Area Community College.
Jason created his school’s first AP United States History (APUSH) course, achieving high student success rates, and served as a consultant with the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) for a decade, mentoring APUSH teachers nationwide through workshops, Summer Institutes, and classroom coaching.
For the College Board, Jason serves as a Question Leader. As a Question Leader, Jason groups of APUSH teachers to develop the scoring criteria of a free-response question and trains AP Readers on best scoring practices. He has used these skills to develop engaging APUSH sessions that provide clarity on course material that results in student success.
In 2023, Jason was recognized as the Pennsylvania History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute and Secondary Teacher of the Year Award by the Pennsylvania Council for Social Studies. In 2025, Jason earned became Pennsylvania’s James Madison Fellow, which is “America’s most prestigious award in constitutional history and government for secondary teachers.” Outside of the classroom, he enjoys quality time with his family going on hikes, playing yard games, running, attending sporting events, and traveling to vacation destinations!

Course Description
This four-class course will serve as a thorough review of the most essential APUSH key concepts and historical thinking skills. In total, this ten-hour review course is divided into four 2.5-hour sessions led by experienced instructors with a history of guiding students to exam excellence. To help every student excel, every class will focus on the acquisition of historical content through engaging and interactive lessons while simultaneously practicing effective best practice strategies to improve success on the stimulus-based multiple-choice questions and all free response questions (short answer questions, long essay questions, and document-based questions). The sessions will be scaffolded to build upon prior skills and knowledge learned in previous sessions to further develop key historical skills of causation, comparison, continuity and change over time, document sourcing, evidenced-based argumentation, and developing a complex understanding essential to score all writing points on free-response rubrics. To help in the retention of key best practices and awareness of common misconceptions on the exam, each session includes a session packet with exam tips, practice questions, and key content organizers. Upon the conclusion of every session, students have the opportunity to complete free response questions that the instructor will review and return with detailed feedback on each APUSH rubric point. Upon course completion, you will enter the exam with more confidence and a rehearsed strategy of how to approach all question types.
