Born near George Washington’s home in Virginia to a naval officer’s family, Bruce went to high school in California, then attended UC Berkeley. With travel in his blood, he has worked in Germany, scaled Mt. Fuji, hiked the Great Wall, and done service projects in the poorest villages of India and Haiti. Nevertheless, his teaching passion is American history. He has taught AP US History, Western Civilization, Law and Government, and Philosophy for 24 years in Darien. He has masters degrees in History and Education and has been a Reader for the AP US History Exam several times in recent years.

Currently, he is the high school advisor to the Model Congress Club and the Tea Club.

In the summer, when he is not reading, kayaking or reenacting a Civil War event, he is traveling with his wife and teenage son.
