Standardized Test Prep: Head Start is designed for students who are just beginning their test prep journey. This course will provide students the content and strategy bases vital to mastering the academic concepts on standardized tests such as the PSAT, SAT, PreACT, and ACT. Students will gain knowledge, confidence, and a personalized consultation of strengths and weaknesses to set them up for success. Also helping students avoid the “summer slide”, or loss of academic content and skills during time when a student’s not in school, this course is the ideal bridge for students to get a Head Start as they head into the academic year.
SAT/ACT Head Start
Carnegie Prep’s Head Start Course will allow students to identify, establish, and secure the foundation of the core knowledge needed for success on the PSAT, SAT, PACT, and ACT. Geared towards rising sophomores and other students just entering the test prep process, this course will provide a content-based, conceptual foundation for the knowledge and strategies needed to succeed in reading comprehension, math, rhetorical and grammatical usage and essential science.
Given that these areas of content and strategy are transferable to both tests, students will be able to apply all materials from this course to whichever prep path they ultimately take. This year’s course will particularly address some of the content gaps that students may be left with as a result of the abbreviated, in-person school year during the spring of 2020.
All students will complete the course with a one-on-one consultation with the course teacher to discuss individual strengths, weaknesses, and questions they may have. Together, they will form a solid plan of action for the student’s prep moving forward, from what to expect on their Sophomore PSAT all the way through the completion of their test prep journey.
